Tenancy Upgrade, Level 1, 1 Chifley Square, Sydney

1 Chifley Square, the iconic Sydney office building designed by Rudder Littlemore & Rudder, forms a significant part of the city’s streetscape - its elegant curved façade resolving the change in direction at the end of Elizabeth Street. Future buildings including Chifley Tower and the Wentworth Hotel have since responded to its curved form, established as one of the most successful early curtain wall office buildings in Sydney.

bokor architecture + interiors were commissioned by Synergy Projects to refurbish Level 1. The floor had become vacant, and the building owner, sought to upgrade and renew prior to re-leasing. The building is heritage protected, however, it required refurbishment to meet the needs of modern offices. The brief included a redesign of the floor, including a new lobby, board room, meeting rooms, tea bench with breakout areas and upgrades to amenities.

Respectful of the building’s heritage listing, the refurbishment created a distinctive boutique and premium environment designed to appeal to a broad spectrum of potential corporate tenants. The design focused on a neutral palette with stone and timber features, whilst incorporating energy efficient lighting, high-performance products, and low maintenance materials.
